Lost Structures

A Proposed Plan of Action for White's Mill:

As requested by the SALFORD Supervisors in a Letter of Definition to be submitted at the June 28th, 2001 meeting held at 7:30pm.

The following are answers to specific questions in outline form.

  1. OUTLINE OF ACTIVITY AT WHITE'S MILL
    1. Goal Statement - To save White's Mill from destruction by enacting a restoration plan that will in the short run - secure and weather proof the structures- and in the long run - repair and restore and aesthetically improve the Mill and House into an historic site that will offer educational opportunities to the community to appreciate historic resources. Understanding that the process of securing funding and permission can be lengthy, the foundation is willing to secure the structures from entry until these issues can be resolved. We would ask that the Township would endorse and support our activities as they relate to township goals.
    2. Use of the Structures - The house when completed may rented to a "curator" or to the township for possible uses. The income generated by this rent will support future repair needs. There are many options for the use of the mill- the foundation is considering a MILL MUSEUM, a MEETING ROOM for historic groups and the like, or a SITE for Special EVENTS, ie family reunions etc. Both structures, when completed will be offered for local tours for educational purposes an an annual basis.
    3. TASK LIST with Materials -purchased or salvaged Vague outline made available until a complete structural study can be made.
    4. Many salvaged materials will be utilized from previously rescued structures.
    5. Equipment & Tools Required: Grove MZ 66 60 Foot Platform Man Lift (owned), Ford 555 Backhoe (owned), Catapillar 955L Track Loader (owned), GMC Tandom Axle Dump Truck (owned), miscellaneous scaffolding, carpentry tools, masonry tools, mortar mixer all owned. RENTAL: Use of crane for 1-2 days.
