Rescued Structures

Rescued Gristmill - January 1999

This Montgomery County Gristmill used to be located at the former Kleinbach Lumber Yard in Green Lane, PA. It dates back to about 1870 when it was a working mill and store.

According to Kenneth Kleinbach, most of the materials used to construct the Green Lane Reservoir in the 1950's passed through the store. Railroad tracks passed behind the Mill. Supposedly 260 carloads of bulk cement, and 225,000 feet of lumber were unloaded for the reservoir project. The Kleinbachs also sold them fuel oil for the equipment.

All the mill workings are still intact including a advertisement on its original red clapboard.

The mill is currently in storage with a extensive set of sketches, photographs, and video that will support its reconstruction. This would be a great structure for someone with plans for a MILL MUSEUM or Antique Market. It may find its home on the Foundation's planned preserve if a good home is not found. Please note that gable end had stone to the second floor from its original bank setting, therefore, this section will need to be replaced.

See our Buildings for Sale page for information about purchasing this mill or check out our other Rescued Properties.
