Fallsington Log House

After many years and much debate, the Fallsington Log House has been dismantled and put in storage by The Foundation for Historic Building Rescue, Inc. In addition, it is in the process of being sold to Falls Township/Historic Fallsington. The Foundation commends the Walker Family for doing the right thing by allowing The Foundation to dismantle and find it a proper new home where it can be enjoyed by future generations.

Background Information:
Over 15 years ago, Jeff Marshal from the Bucks County Conservancy identified this significant historic artifact when the Walkers were looking to have it removed from their property. Fortunately, the family took their time and, thanks to Jeff Walker, contacted The Foundation. From the beginning, the fate of this historic structure had been up in the air and sometimes even controversial (see "News Items" section for more information). During this time, the Bucks County Courier Times wrote several articles asking that the log house stay in Bucks County. In addition, Channel 6 ABC Action News Anchor, Sally Ann Mosey, interviewed Mike, Jeff Marshal and the Walker family for an Action News Special that aired the week of June 21, 2001.

Current Status:
Originally, the log house was thought to be as old as 1683. However, The Foundation recently had a dendrochronology analysis completed to establish an accurate date of 1794-95. Dendrochronology is the science of dating and analyzing annual growth rings in trees. On August 15, 2001, William J. Callahan, a dendrochronology consultant, extracted 12 wood core samples from various location in the Fallsington Log House. The wood core samples were then processed using well-established methods of dendrochronology including the use of COFECHA, a computer program which employs a sliding correlation method to identify probable cross-dates between tree-ring series. Through this precise testing, analysis and research, William J. Callahan and Dr. Edward R. Cook established that the oak timbers of Fallsington Log House provide evidence for a construction date of 1794-95.

FUTURE PLANS:
Possible restoration proposals for the Fallsington Log House include plans to rebuild the structure only a few hundred yards away from where it was discovered.

Stay tuned for updates as this exciting story continues to unfold!
